Basic Piano
Music is not merely the playing of notes on the page, but the ability to understand and interpret those notes in an emotionally meaningful fashion. If you have ever heard a player with competent technique, but no real understanding of MUSIC, you know what we mean when we say music is more, much more, than the notes on the page.
In the end, the most important thing a teacher can give is an awareness of and a joy in music. You may be able to accomplish that yourself, but you’ll find the teachers experience, empathy, and knowledge will get you there faster and more enjoyably.
Basic Piano is designed to give students the opportunity to begin their music literacy, and playing skills. Students will have the opportunity to excel in the areas that are of particular interest, but will be expected to complete assignments in all other areas
Goals & Objectives:
- Learn basic keyboard skills using both hands including scales, chords. 5 finger position, fingering techniques and left hand
accompaniment
- Learn basic music theory including scales, chords, rhythm, harmony and form
- Learn performance etiquette as a performer and as an audience member.
- Perform solo and ensemble music
Philosophy of Music
Mv ultimate goal as a vocal/piano instructor is to bring the student the joy I experience in making music. First, musical learning should be fun and inspiring. I believe that everyone has an innate musical talent and it is m~ task as a teacher to help develop that talent. I believe that everyone should be given the opportunity & tools to become an independent musician and taught how to use those tools. I believe that everyone has different learning styles and that my job is to provide learning experiences that encompass those multiple learning styles. While music literacy is the main goal of my teaching there is a great deal of ancillary learning which takes place in language acquisition and development, reading. rhythmic motor skills, coordination, and social skills.
